Canopy from Pinellas County's last incorporation
Seminole didn't incorporate as a city until a November 15, 1970 meeting at Seminole Mall drew more than 800 freeholders, making it the last municipality to incorporate in Pinellas County after decades as agricultural land settled in the 1840s. Most of the town's tree canopy was planted during the suburban build-out that followed that 1970s incorporation.

Seminole sits on higher, better-drained ridge ground than some of the county's coastal towns, but that elevation doesn't reduce wind exposure, and the countywide downed-tree cleanup Pinellas needed after the 2024 Helene and Milton storms touched Seminole's suburban canopy just like the rest of the county.
